Captain Charles Stuart Forbes, R.N., Retired (2 February, 1879 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

There is an earlier man by the same name who made Lieutenant on 13 March, 1848. This page has a (b) in its title to disambiguate them.

Life & Career

The son of Lachlan Forbes, a retired Major of the 3rd Regiment, was born in Wimbledon.[1]

Forbes was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 June, 1901.[2]

Forbes was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 June, 1909.[3]

Forbes was appointed to the battleship Prince of Wales on 1 January 1913 as first and torpedo officer. He was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1914 and was superseded in Prince of Wales on 19 November, 1914.[4]

After sixteen months on a shore-based assignment with D.N.I. (or O.N.I.?), he was appointed to the new light cruiser H.M.S. Chester on 7 March, 1916. He would fight in her at the Battle of Jutland.[5]

Forbes was placed on the Retired List at his own request at the rank of Captain on 20 August, 1925.[6]

World War II

In 1940, he was reported medically unfit for command.[7]

In 1949, he asked for and was granted permission to proceed to Australia.[8]
