Lieutenant Donald Howell Barton, (3 July, 1898 – 10 January, 1924) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
The son of surveyor H. H. Barton of Folkestone.[1]
Barton was rushed into seagoing service as a Naval Cadet, first to the battleship London and then, in September 1915 to the battlecruiser New Zealand.[2] He would serve in her at the Battle of Jutland. He left New Zealand when he joined Nigella in March, 1917.[3]
Barton was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 August, 1919.[4]
Barton died as first-lieutenant aboard L 24 when she was lost with all hands following a collision with battleship Resolution eleven miles off Portland Bill on 10 January, 1924. He is entombed within the submarine at thirty fathoms depth.[5][6][7]
