H.M.S. Oxley was one of two Oxley Class submarines which served in the Royal Australian Navy and the Royal Navy.

Service

The submarine transited toward Australia under the command of Commander Hugh Richard Marrack with her sister, Otway, in company. Upon reaching Malta, however, both subs were found to have sustained damage to engine columns in heavy weather they'd encountered in the Bay of Biscay. Repairs were warranted before they could proceed, and Lieutenant, R.A.N. Frank Edmund Getting assumed command on 5 September 1928. The trip to Australia continued in November, 1927. They operated in a non-essential role from Australia until it was deemed wise to return them to R.N. service. They were gifted back to Britain on 10 April, 1931 and returned to British waters under a R.N. crew under the command of Edward Masterman Loly.[1]

In mid-1937, she was operating as part of the Fifth Submarine Flotilla.[2]
