H.M.S. Shannon was completed in 1877 as the Royal Navy's first armoured cruiser.

Design & Construction

Service

Re-commissioned at Devonport on 6 August, 1885 with a crew turned over from the Template:UK-1Valiant for work with the Coast Guard Service in Bantry.[6]
