Jack Marcus Douglas Hunter
Commander (retired) Jack Marcus Douglas Hunter, (11 March, 1899 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
The son of Lt. Col. G. D. Hunter, R.A.M.C..
As soon as the war broke out, Hunter was placed in Jupiter and then in Agincourt, but before the 1914 ended he was appointed to the battleship Erin, where he remained through 30 July, 1917, fighting in her at the Battle of Jutland. He did not impress Captain Stanley, who remarked that Hunter was "bel aver. lacks intelligence, no initiative. Improved slightly but still indifferent." He never would receive a truly positive evaluation.[1]
Hunter was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 December, 1919.[2]
He was placed on the Retired List at his own request after expiration of his Full Service Leave, dated 31 March, 1923.[3]
Hunter was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 December, 1927.[4]
World War II
Mobilised in 1938.
Hunter was promoted to the rank of Commander on 3 September, 1945. He was reverted to the Retired List as medically unfit on 30 August, 1947.[5]
