John Moore Heath

Commander (retired) John Moore Heath, (21 August, 1891 – 1 December, 1944) served in the Royal Navy as a member of the Engineering Branch.

Life & Career

Heath was the son of George Heath, Esq., an underwriter at Lloyd's of London.

Heath was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 October, 1913.[1]

The war ended, Heath found himself briefly appointed in command of the interned U 112 from mid-December 1918 to 31 January, 1919.[2]

Heath was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 October, 1921.[3]

On 30 August 1923 he was convicted at West London Police Court for being drunk while in charge of a car. He was sentenced to one month's time in prison and his licence was suspended for seven months.[4]

Heath was placed on the Retired List at his own request at the rank of Commander on 31 August, 1931.[5]

World War II

Heath served in some shore-based appointments, including at Scapa Flow. He reverted to the Retired List on 15 January, 1943 and died of myocardial degeneration in late 1944.
