John Moore Heath

Commander (retired) John Moore Heath, (21 August, 1891 – 1 December, 1944) served in the Royal Navy as a member of the Engineering Branch.

Life & Career

Heath was the son of George Heath, Esq., an underwriter at Lloyd's of London.

Heath was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 October, 1913.

The war ended, Heath found himself briefly appointed in command of the interned U 112 from mid-December 1918 to 31 January, 1919.

Heath was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 October, 1921.

On 30 August 1923 he was convicted at West London Police Court for being drunk while in charge of a car. He was sentenced to one month's time in prison and his licence was suspended for seven months.

Heath was placed on the Retired List at his own request at the rank of Commander on 31 August, 1931.

World War II

Heath served in some shore-based appointments, including at Scapa Flow. He reverted to the Retired List on 15 January, 1943 and died of myocardial degeneration in late 1944.
