Michael George Borradaile Cox
Commander Michael George Borradaile Cox, R.N., Retired (8 August, 1892 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
His father, Edmund Cox claimed a title which could not be substantiated and his name was not included in the Home Office Roll.
Cox was appointed to the destroyer Savage on 5 February, 1913. He served in her until being superseded on 9 August, 1917, being romoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 April, 1915.
In October, 1917, he was sent to join Rival, where he remained until being superseded and appointed in command of the patrol boat P64 on 20 March, 1918.[1]
Post-War
On 9 December 1919, he applied for General Service in Department of Small Craft in the Royal Australian Navy, and he was then loaned to them for two years.
Cox was placed on the Retired List at his own request with a gratuity, dated 18 May, 1920. He was discharged from the R.A.N. on 7 December, 1921.
Cox was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander (retired) on 15 April, 1923.
In 1929, Cox's name was removed from the list for non-report, but this was cancelled and he was restored to the Retired List in 1931, his original seniority of 15 April, 1923 being retained.
Cox was promoted to the rank of Commander (retired) on 8 August, 1932.
He was again removed from the list for non-reporting in July, 1936, but this was promptly cancelled and he was given permission to move to Australia.
