Philip Robert Thresher
Commander (retired) Philip Robert Thresher, R.N. (5 October, 1878 – 29 November, 1923) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Born in Winchester, the son of Reverend J. H. Thresher.[1]
Thresher was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 June, 1901.[2]
Thresher was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 June, 1909.[3]
Thresher was appoined to the second class protected cruiser Talbot on 6 August, 1913. On 4 January 1915 he was made first and gunnery officer. His gunnery duties were cancelled on 14 July 1915.[4]
On 12 February, 1917, C-in-C Cape sent word that Thresher was in hospital and likely to be invalided from his appointment in Talbot. He arrived in England on 27 March and was admitted to Plymouth Hospital, diagnosed with neurasthenia and allotted two weeks to recover. On 2 April, he was declared fit and sent to Devonport. However, on 9 May he was again admitted to Plymouth Hospital. Things spiralled from there. Ultimately, Thresher was placed on the Retired List as unfit on 29 July, 1917.[5]
Thresher was promoted to the rank of Commander on 5 October, 1918.[6]
