Richard Charles Stokes

Commander (retired) Richard Charles Stokes, (4 June, 1894 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

As with many men born c. 1899 or later, his Service Records at The National Archives do not reflect activity between 1931 and 1939 or so.

Life & Career

After having been a Yeoman of Signals, Stokes was confirmed in the rank of Mate on 28 June, 1917. At the extreme end of the war, he served in the battleship Agincourt, his appointment ending on 30 January, 1919. On 24 March, he was appointed to serve on the Danube, being assigned to M.L. 430 and remaining there until December.[1]

Stokes was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 28 June, 1920.[2]

Stokes was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 28 June, 1928.[3]

Stokes was placed on the Retired List on account of age at the rank of Commander on 4 June, 1939.[4]
