Captain (retired) Roderick Edward Francois McQuhae Mackenzie, C.B.E., D.S.C. (11 December, 1894 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of Canadian civil servant Roderick Mackenzie, Esq..[1]

In October 1911 he was admitted to Haslar Hospital with a fractured right radius. Upon passing out of the Training Establishment in May 1912, he was appointed to the pre-dreadnought battleship Lord Nelson. In April 1914 he was appointed to Iron Duke, where he remained until being appointed to the light cruiser Royalist on 11 March 1915.[2]

Mackenzie was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 April, 1916 while still with Royalist. He would see action at the Battle of Jutland where the cruiser screened the Battle Fleet as part of the Fourth Light Cruiser Squadron, and also at the Second Battle of Heligoland Bight, where his ship was part of the First Light Cruiser Squadron.[3]

In October 1918, he passed for Lieutenant (T) with 1,316 of 2,000 marks.[4]

Mackenzie was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 April, 1924.[5]

Mackenzie was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1930.[6]

World War II

Mackenzie was placed on the Retired List on account of age at the rank of Captain on 11 December, 1944.[7]
