Ronald Gordon Murray

Lieutenant Ronald Gordon Murray, R.N. (24 March, 1898 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Entered the service from Conway.

At the start of the war, he was appointed to the battleship H.M.S. Goliath. He stayed there until 27 March, 1915 when he was appointed to the second class protected cruiser Hyacinth. He served in her until November 1917, being awarded a prize from the Royal Humane Society for attempting to save a life off Zanzibar on 20 September, 1916.

In February 1918 he was sent to H.M.S. Vernon for a Torpedo Control Course, and on 18 March was appointed to the "R" Class destroyer H.M.S. Restless.

Murray was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 January, 1919. He joined the Engineering branch after the war, serving in Resolution in 1921, and the submarine X1 from 24 August, 1923 to 22 June, 1926.
