William Scott Chalmers

Rear-Admiral William Scott Chalmers, C.B.E., D.S.C., R.N. (1 May, 1888 – 11 June, 1971) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born in Glasgow.

Chalmers was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 August, 1909,[1] and loaned to the Canadian government for service.[2]

From December 1914 to August, 1915, Chalmers was at the Admiralty, providing Special Service in a navigational capacity. He then served on Vice-Admiral Beatty's staff until some time (April? November?) 1916.

Later, he would serve in Queen Elizabeth. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 August, 1917.[3]

Chalmers was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1921.

Chalmers was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1927. On 22 March 1929, he was loaned to the Royal Australian Navy. He served as Flag Captain and Chief Staff Officer to Rear-Admiral Evans[?], vice Goolden.

World War II

Chalmers was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 10 January, 1939 and placed on the Retired List the following day.
