H.M.S. Maidstone was completed to navy order as a depot ship.
Service
Maidstone commissioned at Portsmouth and served with submarines at Harwich throughout the war.[6]

- Captain Arthur K. Waistell, 1 September, 1913[8] (and in command of Eighth Submarine Flotilla)
- Captain Albert P. Addison, 14 August, 1917[9] (remaining in her through the end of the war and as Captain (S) Ninth Submarine Flotilla)
