Rear-Admiral William Gordon Benn, Royal Navy (31 January, 1889 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Benn was born in Bahia, Brazil.[1]
Benn was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 28 February, 1910.[2]
Benn was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 28 February, 1918.[3]
Post-War
Benn was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1923.[4]
He married Marie Helen Bagbey on 9 April, 1925.[5]
Benn was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1931.[6]
World War II
Benn was appointed in command of the battleship Royal Oak in July, 1939. He wrenched his left knee when she was torpedoed and sunk in Scapa Flow.[7]
Benn was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 8 July, 1941.[8]
