Lieutenant-Commander (retired) John William Renshaw, M.B.E., O.B.E. (16 February, 1862 – 23 January, 1929) served in the Royal Navy, rising to a commissioned officer from a Gunner.
Life & Career
Renshaw spoke some Arabic.
Renshaw was promoted to the rank of Gunner on 11 June, 1891.
In 1901, Wizard collided with the tug Malta due to an error in judgment on Renshaw's part.
On 24 February, 1908 Renshaw was admitted to Haslar Hospital with hemiparesis on his right side. He was fit on 30 May.
Renshaw was promoted to the rank of Chief Gunner on 19 October, 1910.
By late 1911, his evaluations were still very positive, but noted that he should have a position that was less physically demanding.
Renshaw was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 27 February, 1913.
Post-War
He was placed on the Retired List on 6 March, 1919.
Renshaw was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on the Retired List on 27 February, 1921.
Died of a cerebral hemorrhage at 13 Randolph Road in Portsmouth's North End, widowing Mrs. E. H. Renshaw.
