Early Life & Career

Green was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 January, 1890.[1]

Green was specially promoted to the rank of Commander on 1 January, 1901, for services in China.[2]

Great War

Green was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 1 September, 1917, vice Stoddart,[3] and was appointed Senior Naval Officer on the Clyde on 20 October, 1917.[4] On 30 October, 1918, he was appointed Rear-Admiral Commanding in the White Sea, with his flag in H.M.S. Glory.[5]

Post-War

On 1 April, 1922, Green was appointed Commanding Officer, Coast of Scotland and Admiral Superintendent of Rosyth Dockyard.[6]

He was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 1 November, 1922, vice Halsey.[7] On 1 January, 1925, he was placed on the Retired List at his own request.[8]

Retirement

While shooting in Fife on 31 October, 1925 with fellow retired admiral Edward H. Moubray and Admiral Sir Henry Oliver, Commander-in-Chief of the Atlantic Fleet, Green wheeled for a woodcock, fired and shot one barrel into Oliver, fortunately not seriously injuring him. According to Oliver, Green had accidentally shot someone before, and acquired a reputation for doing so.[9]

Green was advanced to the rank of Admiral on the Retired List on 1 August, 1927.[10]
