Vice-Admiral (retired) Edward William Elphinstone Wemyss, R.N. (11 June, 1866 – 3 December, 1938) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Born in Punjab, India.
Wemyss was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 August, 1888.
Wemyss was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1899.
Wemyss was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1906.
Wemyss was appointed in command of the second class protected cruiser Isis on 20 April, 1907.[1]
Wemyss was appointed in command of the battleship Cæsar on 4 June, 1912.[2] On 20 September 1912, she collided with S.S. City of Brussels and Wemyss was blamed for having failed to be on the bridge at the time. He served in her through to the beginning of February, 1915.
Wemyss was placed on the Retired Liust on 14 January, 1917 and promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral (retired) on 2 July, 1917.
Wemyss was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral (retired) on 1 June, 1922.
