U.S.S. K-4, originally to be named U.S.S. Walrus, was one of eight Haddock Class submarines completed for the U.S. Navy.

She commissioned on 24 October, 1914 with Lieutenant James P. Olding in command.

Service

In early 1916, K-3, K-4, K-7 and K-8 were based in Pearl Harbor, their crews living aboard U.S.S. Alert.[4]
