Rear-Admiral SIR Arthur Malcolm Peters, K.C.B., D.S.C. (1 June, 1888 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Peters was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 March, 1910. Peters was appointed in command of Dove and then Bullfinch in 1912. While in command of the latter in December 1912, he was found to be solely at fault for a collision with the ketch Fingal. He applied for and obtained his signal certificate in 1912.
After seven months as signal officer in the third class protected cruiser Bellona, Peters was appointed to the light cruiser H.M.S. Southampton as signal officer.
Notably, Peters functioned at the Battle of Jutland in this same cruiser. Her crucial role in maintaining and reporting contact with the Germans placed him in a vital role, and he was commanded for his work by Admiral Beatty.
Peters was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 March, 1918.
Peters was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1922.
Peters was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1930.
Peters was appointed in command of the light cruiser Champion in December, 1932.
Peters was appointed in command of the new light cruiser Southampton on 2 November, 1936 to take her through her trials. He was soon thereafter re-appointed as Flag Captain in her, staying there until at least 1937 and possibly 1939.
