H.M.S. Hardy was one of thirty-five "G","H" and "I" Class destroyers completed for the Royal Navy. As one of the three "leaders" built, she had an additional 4.7-in gun and a larger complement to accomodate the staff of the Captain (D) leading the formation.

Service

Commissioned on 10 December 1936 to take up work as flagship of the Second Destroyer Flotilla in the Mediterranean.[4]
