Lieutenant-Commander (retired) William Thomas Ahearn, R.N. (6 November, 1875 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Ahearn was promoted to the rank of Gunner on 4 April, 1900.[1]
Ahearn was appointed in command of the ex-tug and special service vessel H.M.S. Traveller on 27 November, 1905.[2]
Ahearn was promoted to the rank of Chief Gunner on 4 April, 1915. In that month, he was injured in his thigh during operations in the Dardanelles, being appointed to the battleship H.M.S. Majestic at the time. He was sent home to Haslar for treatment, which meant that he was fortunate not to be aboard the ship when she was torpedoed and lost on 27 May. In June, he was fit enough to be discharged to H.M.S. Vivid.
Ahearn was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 12 August, 1922. He was placed on the Retired List on account of age on 6 November, 1925.
Ahearn was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander (retired) on 12 August, 1930.
