Lieutenant Ion Plunket Barton, (1 June, 1872 – 3 October, 1899) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Barton was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 June, 1894. His early service was in the Channel Squadron and in the Mediterranean, but on 28 August 1893 he was appointed to the armoured cruiser Imperieuse, on the China Station. This overseas station would comprise the bulk of his short life and career.[1]
Upon leaving command of Whiting in 1897, Barton was appointed to Linnet as first lieutenant.[2]
Barton was appointed in command of the Woodlark on 20 May, 1899. He was still in command when he died of a liver abscess following an operation to treat him for dysentery on 3 October, 1899.[3]
