Captain Robert Hesketh Bevan, R.N. (26 May, 1892 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
The son of Reverend R. A. C. Bevan passed out of the Training Establishment in September 1909 and was sent to the battleship Commonwealth, where he served one year.
Bevan was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 October, 1913. He served in Duke of Edinburgh from that date until 20 April, 1915, being tasked only with Engine Room duties. He 3was next placed in the battleship Hercules, in which he fought at the Battle of Jutland.
On 4 June 1917 he was sent to Excellent for a gunnery course. He remained at the gunnery school through the end of the war, and was appointed to Monarch as gunnery officer from 14 December 1918 until 18 December, 1919.
Bevan was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 October, 1921.
An appointment in command of the minesweeper Saltburn for the Reserve Fleet Exercises in July 1924 was cancelled.
Bevan was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1927.
Bevan was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1935.
World War II
Placed on the Retired List on 7 July, 1944.
