Rear-Admiral (retired) Richard Frederick Britten, Royal Navy (26 May, 1843 – 3 February, 1910) was an officer of the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Britten was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 16 June, 1865.
Britten was promoted to the rank of Commander on 24 August, 1875.
Britten was promoted to the rank of Captain on 3 January, 1881.
He commanded the ironclad battleship Minotaur from 10 March, 1884 to 27 July, 1885 as she operated with the Evolutionary Squadron. At the final month of his command, the ship hosted Captain John Fisher, additional, who was reporting to Admiral Hornby on points related to practical gunnery. This was followed by some years on half pay, after which he commanded the ironclad frigate Agincourt from 1 December 1888 to 7 August, 1892.
Placed on the Retired List at his own request in August, 1892, Britten was advanced to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 11 March, 1896.
