Captain (retired) John Brooke, D.S.C., (2 October, 1887 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
He was born in Posseckstown.
Brooke gained three months' time on passing out of Britannia.
Brooke was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 June, 1909.[1]
Brooke was lent to the Royal Australian Navy from 6 November to 15 December, 1911 and serving in the destroyer Parramatta during that time.[2]
Brooke was appointed in command of the destroyer Ettrick on 31 March, 1914.[3]
Brooke was in command of Zulu when she was blown in half.
Brooke was awarded a D.S.C. "for good service when in command of a destroyer on the Belgian coast", gazetted 23 May, 1917 and promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 June, 1917.[4]

Brooke was appointed in command of the destroyer Viceroy on 28 March, 1919.[6] On 10 November 1919, Brooke displayed "seamanlike qualities" when Phoebe and Miranda collided.[7]
Brooke was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1922.[8]
In 1932, it was noted that Brooke would be required to give evidence "in B[illegible] case" before 1933.[9]
Brooke was placed on the Retired List at his own request with the rank of Captain on 2 October, 1933.[10]
Brooke was selected to be Chief Constable, Royal Marine Police to date 1 August, 1936. This appointment terminated on 31 July, 1946 and Brooke reverted to the Retired List on 1 August.[11]
