Captain Hugh Talbot Burgoyne, V.C. (17 July, 1833 – 7 September, 1870) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Born in Ireland, Burgoyne was awarded a V.C. when he was 21 years old, for his exploits in a landing party during the Crimean War.
Burgoyne died when his masted turret ship Captain capsized in a gale off Cape Finisterre. The ship had been poorly designed, with very little freeboard and exceedingly heavy turrets.
