Commander James Campbell Clouston (31 August, 1900 – 3 June, 1940) served in the Royal Navy. He died while serving as pier master in the evacuation of Dunkirk.
Life & Career
Born in Montreal.
Clouston was awarded the Goodenough Medal and the Commander Egerton Prize in recognition of his excellent gunnery scores.
Clouston was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 June, 1922.
Clouston was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 June, 1930.
Clouston was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1934.
He died off Dunkirk when his boat was destroyed by German air attack. His role in coordinating the evacuations from a pier are loosely captured in the 2017 film "Dunkirk" where he is portrayed as a Rear-Admiral named Bolton.
