Lieutenant-Commander Ernest Torre Favell, R.N. (20 November, 1884 – 5 September, 1914) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Born in Etruria, Staffordshire, Favell gained three months' time on passing out of Britannia.
Favell was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 March, 1906. He would gain first class certificates in gunnery and torpedoes in March and April and suffer a bout of the flu at Haslar Hospital in June, 1906. After a year and a half in the battleship Irresistible in the Mediterranean, Favell went to Vernon to qualify as a Lieutenant (T).
Favell spent more time in torpedo work at H.M.S. Defiance in 1909-10. He serveed as torpedo officer in Hampshire from September 1910, then in Aboukir from April, 1911 before returning to Hampshire in December, 1911 for a little over two years.
Favell was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 March, 1914 as he re-qualfied in torpedoes at Vernon.
Favell was appointed to the scout cruiser Pathfinder of the Eighth Destroyer Flotilla as torpedo officer on 25 April, 1914 and died when she was lost to a torpedo from U 21 on 5 September, 1914.
