Commander (retired) Charles Tiedemann Gervers, D.S.O. (10 May, 1876 – 4 June, 1927) served in the Royal Navy. His son, Ronald Charles Gervers, also served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Born at Kimberley, South Africa.
Gervers was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1898, but had to retire due to poor health on 6 May 1899.[1]
Gervers was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander (retired) on 31 December, 1906.[2]
Gervers was appointed to Halcyon for minesweeping at Lowestoft on 9 August, 1914. In mid-May 1915 he went to Excellent for a week, and on 15 June was appointed to Theseus. He was invalided from this appointment on 14 January, 1916.[3]
On 21 July 1917 he requested relief from his post at Baghdad so he could attend to private affairs at home.
Gervers was promoted to the rank of Commander on the Retired List in recognition of wartime service dated 11 November, 1918.[4]
He died of pneumonia in mid 1927.[5]
