Captain Frederick John Butler Gibson, O.B.E., R.N., Retired (11 September, 1882 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Gibson's father was Reverend Herbert Favell Gibson. Gibson gained seven months' time on passing out of Britannia.
Gibson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1903.
Gibson obtained a 4th class certificate in surveying in February, 1903. He would ascend through 3rd and 2nd class until obtaining a first class certificate on 1 June, 1911.

In November 1918, Commodore-in-Charge, Hong Kong Gurner recorded that Gibson was "except. one of the most capable officers I have ever met. Has performed every kind of intricate duty well, never at a loss & meets every situation with except. ability."
Gibson was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 31 October, 1922. He received permission to proceed to the Orinces Delta in Venezuela for three years in 1923 and was subsequently promoted to the rank of Captain (retired) on 11 September, 1927.
