Commander (retired) Harold Geoffrey Leech Harvey, O.B.E., R.N. (27 May, 1890 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Harvey listed his mother as his guardian upon joining the Navy on 5 May, 1905.[1]
Harvey was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 29 February, 1912. While serving in the armoured cruiser Shannon later that year, he lost confidential books.[2]
Appointed to the Tribal Class destroyer Maori on 9 March 1915, Harvey would be taken prisoner of war when the ship was lost to a German mine on 7 May. On 28 March 1918, he arrived in Holland for internment.[3]
Harvey was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 29 February, 1920.[4]
In 1928, he relinquished his role as a Physical Training officer and reverted to general service.[5]
Harvey was placed on the Retired List at his own request at the rank of Commander on 28 May, 1932.[6]
World War II
On 31 October 1937 he was appointed Commanding Officers of the Severn Division with the rank of Captain R.N.V.R.. He held this post until 9 April, 1940.[7]
