Lieutenant William Peel Hillyar, (28 April, 1863 – 6 July, 1891) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Born in Plympton, Devon.[1]
Hillyar was awarded the Goodenough Medal, being the Sub-Lieutenant who achieved the highest gunnery examination for the year and while also achieving a first-class certificate in seamanship.[2]
Hillyar was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 24 April, 1885.[3]
Hillyar was appointed to the corvette Cordelia for gunnery dities on 6 October 1889 and died when a 6-in gun exploded aboard the ship in July 1891.[4]
