Commander (retired) Ian Clarence Shirreff Hilton, R.N. (26 August, 1886 – 26 June, 1927) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Hilton was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 April, 1909.
Hilton was appointed Lieutenant & Commander of the first-class torpedo boat T.B. 20 on 4 April, 1912.[1] He left her when she paid off in January, 1914 and was appointed to join Thunderer on 11 February, serving with her until 19 March, 1916. He would then commence a series of destroyer commands, starting with Ness, appointed on 26 March, 1916. On 3 May, he was moved to command Lydiard before being appointed in command of the destroyer Larne on 10 May, 1916. He would command her through the end of the war.
Hilton was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 1 April, 1917.
Post-War
On 1 October, 1919, he was appointed in command of the destroyer Tetrarch.[2]
Hilton was placed on the Retired List at his own request with the rank of Commander on 2 February, 1927. He died later that same year.
