Commander John William Howard, R.N. (24 November, 1883 – 17 April, 1938) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born in Mayfair. Howard had a modest command of the Italian language. He placed eleventh of sixty-one cadets passing out of Britannia in August 1899, earning 1660 of 2250 possible marks.[1]

Howard was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 24 May, 1904.

Howard was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 24 May, 1912.

Howard was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1917.

Post-War

On 26 July 1919, Howard was Court Martialed and severely reprimanded and dismissed Empress for drinking excessively such that he was unable to perform his duties.

Howard was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 12 January, 1920.
