Captain (retired) John Walter Rainier, R.N. (10 September, 1881 – 13 June, 1956) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Rainier was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 September, 1902.[1]
Rainier was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 September, 1910.[2]
Rainier was appointed in command of the armed R.I.M. ship Minto from 18 February, 1918 to 4 January, 1919.
Rainier was placed on the Retired List at his own request with the rank of Commander on 13 October, 1924.[3]
World War II
In August 1939, Rainier was appointed as Gunnery Equipment Officer on the staff of Flag Officer in Charge, Humber, working from Hull. Later shore appointments at Leith and Glasgow, and command of the training establishment Ariel from 8 October 1942 to 11 April, 1945.[4]
Rainier was granted the war service rank of Captain.
Rainier died of prostate cancer in mid-1956.
