Captain (retired) Norman Hugh Rankin, (11 July, 1878 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Born in Sutton, the son of engineer H. Rankin. His entry into the Navy seems unusual, in that he apparently entered Britannia on 6 December, 1894 and passed out that same month.[1]
Rankin was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 April, 1901.[2]
Rankin was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1915.[3]
Rankin was placed on the Retired List as medically unfit on 4 June 1920 and was promoted to the rank of Captain on 11 July, 1923.[4]
In August 1948, he was granted permission to proceed to South Africa for approximately eight months.[5]
