Captain Herbert Neville Rolfe, D.S.O., R.N. (16 June, 1854 – 22 February, 1942) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Rolfe was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 8 December, 1879.
He was promoted to the rank of Commander on 1 January, 1894.
In July, 1900 the Commander-in-Chief, Mediterranean and the Admiralty agreed that "great laxity was apparent" in circumstances that led to the drowning death of a stoker.
Rolfe was placed on the Retired List at his own request at the rank of Captain on 11 November, 1902.
Rolfe was appointed in command of the yacht Iolaire from 21 March 1916 to 6 November, 1918. He grounded her on 3 September 1917 and was told to be more careful in future.
Rolfe was appointed in command of the Albion and Exmouth, jointly, on 15 November, 1918.[1]
Reverted 24 June 1919.
