Captain Chandos Scudamore Scudamore Stanhope (19 January, 1823 – 7 July, 1871) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Stanhope was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 2 March, 1846.
Stanhope was promoted to the rank of Commander on 9 May, 1856.
Stanhope received a Royal Humane Society Silver Medal in 1851 for rescuing a seaman. He would later be the namesake for the Stanhope Medal, awarded to the winner of a life-saving R.H.S. Medal for the year judged bravest of all.
Stanhope was promoted to the rank of Captain in October, 1858.
He would succumb to smallpox on Malta in mid 1871.
