H.M.S. Vidette was one of twenty-five "V" class destroyers completed for the Royal Navy in 1917-18.
Service
Vidette was commissioned on 18 April, 1918.[6]
She was re-commissioned at Port Edgar on 27 September, 1923. By March 1925, she was operating with the Sixth Destroyer Flotilla as part of the Atlantic Fleet.[7]
After paying off into Dockyard Control at Devonport on 2 June, 1927,[8] she commissioned at Devonport 26 August, 1927 for service with the Sixth Destroyer Flotilla in the Atlantic.[9]
Re-commissioned at Devonport 27 April, 1931 for service with the Sixth Destroyer Flotilla in the Atlantic,[10] where she remained until at least early 1933.[11] She remained with the flotilla after it transferred to the Home Fleet.[12]
In June of 1933, her bell was one of about 100 surplus bells announced as being for sale at prices ranging from £1 to £10. Preference would be given to those offers from men with a special consideration in the bell in question.[13]
She transferred to the Reserve Fleet at Devonport on 17 May, 1935.[14]
Commissioned at Devonport on 6 May, 1936 for service with the First Anti-Submarine Flotilla at Portland.[15]
