Commander (retired) Hilary Poland Mead, R.N. (10 July, 1888 – 30 November, 1961) was an officer in the Royal Navy. He would specialise in wireless telegraphy.
Life & Career
Born in Dulwich.
Mead was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 July, 1909.
Mead was appointed in command of the first-class torpedo boat T.B. 1 in on 13 October, 1914.[1] From mid-February 1915, he provided wireless telegraphy expertise to the Second Battle Squadron and the Fourth Light Cruiser Squadron.
Mead was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 July, 1917.
Mead was placed on the Retired List at his own request with the rank of Commander on 22 June, 1929.
Mead served as the editor of The Mariner's Mirror from 1946 until 1954.
