Captain Gerard Marmaduke Brooke, R.N., Retired (21 December, 1850 – 15 March, 1905) served in the Royal Navy. His sons, Kennedy Gerard Brooke and Cecil Edward Brooke, would also become officers in the service.
Life & Career
Brooke was ranked thirty-fourth in order of merit of thirty-six candidates accepted as first-class Naval Cadets following the entrance examinations of December, 1864.[1]
Brooke was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 April, 1875.
Brooke was promoted to the rank of Commander on 21 June, 1887.
Brooke was placed on the Retired List on account of age with the rank of Captain on 21 December, 1900.
A dangerous illness in February 1905 caused his son to be granted leave from service on the China Station to attend to him. Kennedy would arrive two days too late, as his father died on 15 March.
