Commander (retired) Patrick Wylie Rose Weir, R.N. (11 August, 1891 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
The son of Colonel P. A. Weir, Patrick Weir passed out of the Training Establishment with no additional time gained and joined the battlecruiser Indomitable in mid January, 1909. Weir was noted by his earliest evaluators as speaking German and French and being "good at games" but not being very assertive.[1]
Weir was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 May, 1914.[2]
Weir was appointed to the battleship Marlborough on 2 June, 1914 and served in her until being superseded on 26 January, 1916. He presently joined the Murray, to serve a year in that vessel. In March of 1917, he was appointed in command of P35.[3]
On 24 July, 1918, Weir's Pincher was wrecked. He was court-martialed and sentenced to be reprimanded for steering an unsafe course.[4]
Post-War
Weir was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 May, 1922.[5]
Weir was placed on the Retired List at his own request with the rank of Commander on 11 August, 1935.[6]
World War II
Weir was mobilised on 29 September, 1938 and served throughout the war in a variety of naval college-related commands in Bristol and Dartmouth.
He reverted to the Retired List on 26 November 1946.
