Captain (retired) Eric William Westgarth Ling (3 October, 1887 – 24 June, 1951) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Ling was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 November, 1908.[1]
After fifteen months as gunnery officer in the armoured cruiser Roxburgh, Ling was appointed to the pre-dreadnought Hibernia as gunnery officer on 2 July, 1915. Ling was promoted in this appointment to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 November, 1916. In October 1917, he was appointed to Agamemnon to serve as gunnery officer upon her re-commissioning.[2]
Ling was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1920.[3]
Ling was placed on the Retired List owing to non-service at the rank of Captain on 6 April, 1935. In 1938 he was reported as unfit to serve due to an accident which had injured his left leg and right heel. He died of cancer in 1951.[4]
