Captain John Piachaud Wright, O.B.E., D.S.O.* (5 November, 1902 – 5 April, 1980) served in the Royal Navy.
As with many men born c. 1899 or later, his Service Records at The National Archives do not reflect activity between 1931 and 1939 or so.
Life & Career
Wright was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 June, 1929.[1]
Wright was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 June, 1932.[2]
Wright was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1936.[3]
Wright was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1940.[4]
On 27 March 1942, he was gazetted for a bar to his D.S.O. for his daring and resolution in opposing the Channel Dash of the Scharnhorst, Gneisenau and Admiral Hipper. In truth, however, his Mackay never drew within range of the enemy.
