Commander (retired) Humphry Collis Woolrych, (22 August, 1893 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of Major H. Woolrych of the Indian Army.[1]

On 6 February 1914, he was appointed to the T.B. 6, though this may be a boat of another number. On 29 July, he was moved to the destroyer Itchen.[2]

Woolrych was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 May, 1915. In June, he was appointed to the {UK-M33|f=t}}.[3]

Woolrych was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 May, 1923. In 1927, while appointed as to Cardiff as torpedo officer and Squadron Torpedo Officer for the Third Cruiser Squadron, Woolrych was found by a Court of Enquiry to be to blame for an accident to himself and an A.B. while weighing anchor by hand. In December, he was not recommended for promotion. He was noted as a poor seaman and wanting in tact, but also for being ingenious and hardworking in torpedoes.[4]

Woolrych was placed on the Retired List at his own request at the rank of Commander on 12 October, 1936 and took up work as the Passive Defence Officer at Chatham.[5]

World War II

Commanded Edinburgh Castle vice Maxwell and anothe vessel, possibly Leonidas.[6]
