Commander (retired) John Harold Smith-Wright, R.N. (18 August, 1882 – 19 Maarch, 1930) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
The son of Henry Smith-Wright, Barrister-at-Law was born at Park Hill, in Lyndhurst, Hants.[1]
Smith-Wright passed out of Britannia in December, 1897 ranked fifth of the sixty-four cadets who passed out, with 1785 marks.[2]
Smith-Wright was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1903. Around this time he requested the opportunity to qualify for Physical Training duties, but he cancelled this.[3]
On 12 June, 1907 Smith-Wright qualified as Lieutenant (S).[4]
In March 1911, he qualified in navigation for command of torpedo craft. Later that same year, he qualified in gunnery and torpedoes for torpedo craft.[5]
Smith-Wright was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 31 December, 1911. He retired in May, 1912, but on the 30th he requested that this be cancelled, which it was.[6]
Placed on the Retired List at his own request on 25 August, 1920, Smith-Wright was promoted to the rank of Commander on 18 August, 1922.[7]
