Captain Frederick Charles Ulick Vernon Wentworth, C.B., Royal Navy (10 June, 1866 – 21 September, 1947) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

At the examination for naval cadetships Wentworth placed thirteenth out of thirty-seven successful candidates.[1]

Wentworth was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 January, 1890.[2]

In the late 1890s, he invented the Wentworth Telephone, Admiralty Pattern 1684.[Inference]

Wentworth was promoted to the rank of Commander on 1 January, 1901.[3]

From the Retired List, Wentworth was appointed Captain of H.M.S. Vernon on 10 July, 1918. [4] On 25 June an Order in Council had been obtained for Wentworth to take rank and command as a Captain on the Active List while holding the appointment.[5]

On the occasion of the King's birthday he was appointed an Additional Member of the Third Class, or Companion, in the Civil Division of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath (C.B.) on 3 June, 1919.[6]

Wentworth died on 21 September, 1947 at 47 Redington Road, Hampstead, at the age of eighty-one. He left effects valued at the staggering sum of £495,627 17s. 8d.[7]
