Rear-Admiral Henry Percy Boxer, R.N. (14 October, 1885 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Boxer was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 October, 1907.[1]
Boxer was appointed in command of the destroyer Ness on 31 May, 1913.[2]
Great War
Boxer was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 1 October, 1915.[3]
He was captain of the destroyer Noble at the Battle of Jutland, where she operated with the Twelfth Destroyer Flotilla.[4]
In 1917, he was noted to be suffering from strain. Insomnia, headaches and a "temporary loss of self-confidence" prompted his admission to the hospital ship China. On 29 October, he was admitted to Plymouth naval hospital for three weeks to be treated for "neurasthenia." He did not seem well enough at that time, and on 1 February, 1918 he was finally discharged, fit only for shore duty only, but to be re-evaluated in three months. By mid-May, he was ready to return to command, and was given charge of Plover.[5]
Post-War
On 7 December, 1918, he was appointed in command of the destroyer Sportive.[6]
He was appointed in command of the destroyer Shamrock on 2 September, 1919.[7]
Boxer was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1920.[8]
Boxer was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1927.[9]
Boxer was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 10 January, 1939.[10]
