Vice-Admiral Alfred Charles Sykes, C.M.G., Royal Navy, Retired (20 February, 1868 – 11 February, 1933) was an officer of the Royal Navy.
Early Life & Career
Sykes was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 April, 1891.[1]
Sykes was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1903.
He was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1909.[2]
In March 1915, he assumed command of the second class protected cruiser Challenger.
He was appointed in command of the second class protected cruiser Astræa on 22 April, 1913,[3] commissioning her at Chatham at 9 in the morning.[4]
Sykes was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 24 March, 1920. He was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 25 March.[5] He was advanced to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 12 August, 1925.[6]
