Captain (retired) George Roland Gordon Allen, C.B.E., D.S.O. (25 April, 1891 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Allen was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 October, 1912.[1]

On 22 February 1916, Allen was appointed to Southampton as torpedo officer, and to provide torpedo support for the Second Light Cruiser Squadron. He fought in her at the Battle of Jutland, and was able to fire a torpedo in the night action when German light cruisers appeared suddenly at close range. It was felt that this torpedo produced a hit – likely being the one which sank the German light cruiser Frauenlob.

Allen was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 October, 1920.[2]

Allen was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1926.[3]

World War II

Allen was granted the acting rank of Captain on 23 May, 1939.[4]

Allen was placed on the Retired List on account of age with the rank of Captain dated 25 April, 1941.[5]
